Erica

My Story

My decision to study nutrition came from my own unhealthy relationship with food. Through my teens, college years, and twenties, I was in search of the perfect diet and had all consuming health anxiety.

I didn't realize it at the time, but becoming a dietitian was the pivotal shift that ultimately helped me heal my relationship with food and discover life without food obsession. 

​As a grad student, I discovered that a lot of the dogmatic beliefs I held about food and health were not actually so scientific, and restricting myself was causing more problems than I realized.

Constantly thinking about food, trying to eat perfectly, and always choosing the healthified dessert led to deprivation that was wreaking havoc on my mental and physical wellbeing and making my life small. 

Once a dietitian, I set out to help others overcome their own cycles of disordered eating and reclaim their health. Through private practice, clinical, and community settings, I created programs helping hundreds manage diabetes, manage PCOS, and overcome binge eating.

Once I got pregnant several years later, my relationship with food hit another rough patch. Debilitating "morning sickness" (that had nothing to do with the morning...it was 24/7 from week 6-26) followed by failing the glucose test led me back into a cycle of food obsession and worry.

 

My head was spinning from tracking my blood sugar 4x/day, troubleshooting high numbers, and feeling guilty and overwhelmed. 

On my journey, I met many other moms who felt much of the traditional GD advice was a medically prescribed eating disorder and were not getting the support and tools they needed to balance their blood sugar in a clear, non restrictive way.

 

This is exactly why I created my Gestational Diabetes Program, to give other parents the tools and support needed to balance blood sugar while eating foods they enjoy. 

Outside of work, I love spending time with my daughter, husband, and our doggie Augie. Getting outside for a walk is my happy place. My favorite food is pizza. Summer is my favorite season!
